There are two moats in the castle grounds. The first dates from the time that the castle was built. The owner had a second moat dug in the 18th century, water for which was supplied from a spring. Water from this moat is discharged into the river Geul.
The ponds in the castle gardens likewise date from the 18th century and functioned as trout ponds. At the time, there were additional ponds on the other side of the road, the Wittemer Allee, but only the ponds on the side of the castle have remained intact.
